DreamScene
Believe it or not, Windows 7 didn’t inherit all the “nice” features
from Vista. The migration
from vista to 7 did loss one of the nicer features you have in Vista
Ultimate, the DreamScene. DreamScene enables you to make small video
clips as desktop
backgrounds. Microsoft never really addressed why the
DreamScene was taken out in Windows 7, but clearly having a video
constantly playing in the background isn’t a good way to speed things
up. So removing out the feature completely across all versions of
Windows 7 does make sense in terms of improving the performance.
However, if you think this feature is cool. There is a small tweak utility DreamScene Activator from thewindowsclub that you can use to enable this vista feature on your Windows 7 with one click.
Simply download and launch this tool, and click “Enable DreamScene”. Once you have done that it will restart your Windows Explorer. What it does behind the scene is that it copies:
1. the DreamScene.dll to %WinDir%\System32; and
2. the DreamScene.dll.mui to %WinDir%\System32\en-US
Once the Windows Explorer restarts, you can now right-click on any .wmv video format and set them as your desktop background.
